I visited the South area of France, from Monaco to Cannes, and I have to say that found it quite interesting, even if not so much caracteristic of the nation perhaps. Some people who visited the North of France - especially Paris - were fascinated by that area and its typical cultural, artistic and natural beauties.
About Italy I can say that, from North to South, there are so many places that are worth a visit that it could be really difficult to choose among one or just a few of them. I can suggest you some of the main cities divided by region, which are well connected each other also with public transportation system. Starting from the North you could visit Venice, old maritime republic and romantic city par excellence in Italy that offers beautiful attractions and picturesque typical isles - find information here: http://www.aboutvenice.org/. Go down in Tuscany then, where cities like Florence, Venice and Pisa represent the centre of Italian art and culture (visit the following sites in order to find detailed information to plan your trip there: http://www.aboutflorence.com/ http://www.aboutflorence.com/ http://www.aboutpisa.info/ ). End your trip to Italy with a visit to Rome, the so called eternal city thanks to its unique atmosphere suspended between past and present. Find on the site below, turist and general information about the city of Rome:
